Local Dentist Wins Best Pediatric Dental Office in Atlanta!

When Brookhaven Children’s Dentistry opened in 2013, we never anticipated the support we would receive from our patients, friends, and community! Last year, our office was the lucky recipient of the Red Tricycle “Totally Awesome Award” for Best Pediatric Dentist in Atlanta. This year, our fans have supported us again and we’ve been chosen for Best Pediatric Dentist in Atlanta’s Best Self Magazine.

Have you heard of “Best Self Magazine?” This is a great local publication that writes about becoming a better you, through fitness and weight loss tips, beauty and anti-aging tips, as well as food and nutrition information. Best Self Magazine can be found in various retail locations around the Atlanta area. Be sure to stop by their website for more health tips and secrets.

The Red Tricycle Totally Awesome Awards have been postponed for 2014. Red Tricycle has informed last year’s winners that the voting for 2014’s awards will begin in January. We’ll keep you updated on our Facebook and Twitter pages once the voting is available.

Fall Festival Time!

School is in full swing, and fall is finally here!  The leaves are changing colors, the days are getting shorter, and the weather is cooler.  Brookhaven Children’s Dentistry loves fall for many reasons!  Dr. Christianson’s favorite holiday is Halloween, and our office manager Michael loves fall festivals and fairs!  This year, our office has already visited, and will be attending more fall festivals!

Recently, we had the opportunity to have a presence at the Globe Academy International Fall Festival!  This is a local charter school that uses immersion therapy to teach kids multiple foreign languages.  You can check out their website for more information.  There were multiple activities such as a “temporary henna tattoo” stand, an arts and crafts table, food trucks, samosas to eat, as well as live music and entertainment.

Here’s a photo from one of the live shows, which allowed children to become part of the fun too!  At our booth, we had our own temporary tattoo stand, as well as a few teaching tools for the kids such as teeth models and x-rays of teeth!  We had a great time at the Globe Academy’s festival this year.

Next, we attended the Brookhaven Chili Cook Off and the Oakhurst Arts and Music Festival, which both happened on October 11^th.  These are two great festivals in the Brookhaven and Oakhurst communities of Atlanta.  The 3^rd Annual Brookhaven Chili Cook Off featured a plethora of chili and Brunswick stew to taste.  There was a children’s area with games and activities, live music, and even numerous prizes for the winning chili teams!

The Oakhurst Arts and Music festival is now in its 17^th season, and is held by the Decatur Arts Alliance every October!  There is a giant artists market, an interactive circus demonstration for the kids, live music, all only a few steps away from the great restaurants in the Oakhurst Square.  Despite a bit of rain, both of these events turned out to be really fun!  We can’t wait for next year’s events.

In addition, we have four more festivals coming up soon, so definitely be sure to come and see us!  The Pace Academy Fall Festival is open to the public and features tons of activities.  The 51^st annual Pace Fall Festival happens on October 25^th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  At the event, there’s shopping with local vendors to entertain the parents.  For the kids, there are tons of inflatable bouncy castles, a maze, gem mining, wax hands, and a haunted house.

The Sarah Smith Fall Festival also happens on October 25^th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  There will be similar events such as inflatable rides for the kids, a live DJ, food trucks, arts and crafts, a haunted house, and games.  Also on October 25^th, the Briar Vista Elementary School will be having their Fall Festival.  There will also be fun activities on hand for the public, and our office will be at the Health and Wellness Booth to talk about snacks and your teeth!

Finally, The Ashford Park Elementary Fall Festival is happening on November 15^th from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the school.  This year, there will be a petting zoo, craft vendors, giant inflatable slides, and even an appearance by the Atlanta Hawks!

Each February, the American Dental Association (ADA) sponsors National Children’s Dental Health Month to raise awareness about the importance of oral health.  The Oral Health Month campaign brings together thousands of dedicated dental professionals, health care providers and others to promote the benefits of good oral health to children and adults, caregivers, teachers, and many others.  Developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.

For this year’s Oral Hygiene Month, Brookhaven Children’s Dentistry participated in numerous preschool and elementary school teachings!  Our office instructed students at 9 different pre-schools, including 21 separate classes.  We instructed at 4 different elementary schools, participating in two different elementary school “science night” activities, four different Kindergarten classes, five different 1^st grade classes, and two classes of 2^nd graders.  The students really enjoyed the games and  activities we had planned and all had great answers for our questions!

We really appreciate all of the help from the administrators, parents, and teachers of these schools.  Without their assistance, we would not have the opportunity to instruct these students.  And finally, thank you to all of the students and staff of these schools for allowing us to come and teach!  We’re so happy to spread knowledge of good oral hygiene habits, to help kids maintain healthy smiles for a lifetime.
